On this night in 1886, brothers Reinhard and Max Mannesmann succeeded in producing the first pipe using the piercing rolling process they had invented in the "Inventors' Hall" - today's mechanical workshop of Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes Deutschland GmbH - just 100 metres away. Exactly 75 years later, on August 21st 1961, the Mannesmann Tower, a construction made of Mannesmann tubes, was switched on with the original illuminated MW sign by two daughters of the inventor Reinhard Mannesmann.
The blue moon of Remscheid shines again
On the evening of August 21, 2022, the new LED lighting of the MW logo in the traditional Mannesmann blue was put into operation on a historic date.
